Breast revision surgery is performed to correct a complication or dissatisfaction resulting from a previous breast surgery. Even with the most skilled surgeon, the need for revision can arise as bodies change and implants age.
Depending on the circumstances, revision may involve implant removal, replacement, capsule revision, or a combination with a breast lift. At your consultation, Dr. Hua will assess your concerns and recommend the best technique to meet your goals.
Techniques
When the implant descends below the breast crease after surgery, causing loss of upper-pole volume. Dr. Hua may perform a capsulorrhaphy — internal sutures that elevate the implant — and may add internal mesh or an internal bra for additional support.
One of the most common complications, occurring when scar tissue surrounding the implant hardens, squeezing it and producing discomfort or an unnatural appearance. Treatment usually requires removal of the scar tissue (capsulectomy), with implants commonly removed or replaced.
When the implant slides below the breast crease and creates a second area of fullness. Correction often involves a breast lift combined with a secondary augmentation.
Anatomical (teardrop) implants can rotate or shift within the breast pocket. The pocket may be revised and/or the implants repositioned or replaced.
Saline rupture produces obvious deflation; silicone rupture may require MRI to detect. Dr. Hua will remove the affected implant, irrigate the breast pocket, and replace the implant.
The most common reason for revision. Dr. Hua will assess your chest width and tissue characteristics to safely deliver the new size you desire.
When implants are positioned too close to the midline. The breast pocket is manipulated to correctly position the implants and reconstruct the natural cleavage.
